Threaded Through Nature is a textile project inspired by the intricate beauty of natural forms and textures. Drawing from organic patterns and structures, I developed a series of collages and designs that explore sustainability through making. Using pre-loved threads and materials, I combined traditional techniques such as goldwork and hand embroidery to celebrate craftsmanship and detail. Alongside this, I experimented with melting discarded plastic to create layered backgrounds, transforming waste into a new, fabric-like surface. The project highlights the contrast between natural beauty and environmental impact, promoting mindful making and demonstrating how discarded materials can be reimagined into something meaningful and visually rich.

Past Projects

Alongside my current work, these past projects offer an insight into my creative development, showcasing experimentation with materials, techniques and themes that continue to shape my practice.

BEYOND THE SURFACE: BARK STUDIES

Beyond the Surface explores the overlooked complexity of natural textures, inspired by close observation of tree bark. Through mark-making, print and hand embroidery, this project translates the depth, irregularity and rhythm of bark into textile form. By slowing down and studying nature in detail, I aimed to capture the richness that is often missed at a glance. Layered stitching and surface techniques were used to build tactile pieces that reflect the magnitude and variation found in natural surfaces. The work highlights the importance of observation in making, encouraging a deeper appreciation of texture within both nature and textiles.

Threads That Bind is a personal textile project exploring family, connection and identity. Through fabric, stitch and composition, I represent different parts of my life and the relationships that shape them. The work reflects both togetherness and separation, bringing figures together while also isolating individuals to highlight their unique roles and identities. Using textile techniques, I translate memory and emotion into visual form, layering materials and stitches to symbolise bonds, distance and change over time. This project captures the complexity of family life, showing how we are simultaneously connected and individual within shared experiences.
