About Me
Fabric and thread have always been part of my life. My earliest sewing memory is from primary school, when we made a pillow for a school trip. I remember choosing my own fabric instead of using the one provided and deciding to add a heart-shaped pocket on the front. That meant going home and figuring out how to make it myself. That small project opened my eyes to textiles and I knew it was something I wanted to keep exploring.
I became truly serious about textile art during secondary school. My teacher, Mrs Heath, encouraged my ideas and my love for making in every project. One project that stayed with me explored natural patterns, and it continues to influence my creative direction today. Through embroidery I’ve learned the value of patience and persistence. Stitching takes time, but the process and the finished piece are always worth it. My mum has always been my biggest supporter, attending exhibitions, helping me through creative challenges, and making me countless hot chocolates when I stay up late working on projects.
I studied Textile Design at Buckinghamshire New University, where I was able to explore a wide range of techniques from knitting to print. It was during my final year that I reconnected with embroidery and realised it was where my true passion lies.
My final-year collection, Threaded Through Nature, was inspired by the world around me. Visits to galleries and gardens, including the Saatchi Gallery, the Barbican, and Kew Gardens, helped shape the work. I see embroidery as a way of creating something unique, where every stitch adds individuality and meaning.
Sustainability is an important part of my practice. I often use melted plastic bags to create textured surfaces for embroidery and work with threads that have been donated to me. My designs are inspired by natural forms such as flowers and leaves, combining craftsmanship with an awareness of the materials I use.
Through my work, I hope to encourage people to appreciate the time, care, and skill behind handmade textiles, while also reflecting on the importance of creating art that respects and protects the natural world.
